During the Winter of eighteen seventy eight there was a great frost. The Corrib was frozen and the people brought turf from Derries to Billypark. It is also stated that Lake View below Ballinrobe was frozen and that a gentleman named Walshe rode across it in his coach drawn by a pair of horses. - A great storm occured in January eighteen hundred and thirty nine and it is called, "The night of the Big Wind.
