  1. Ardkell is the downland in which I live. It is in the parish of Roundfort. It is in the barony of Kilmaine. The barony of Kilmaine extends from Glencorrib to the bridge of Keel.
    Long ago there were forty small houses in the village. All of them were thatched. Today there are thirteen houses in the village all slated. It was owned by a landlord named Thomas O'Dea. About thirteen years ago the Irish Land Commission bought it and fenced it and gave it in holdings to tenants.
