- (continued from previous page)man of the house got hungry and told his wife to get him a drink. When she was bringing it to him one of them spilled it. He told her to bring him a piece of cake but she would not get up the second time. He got up and he found there was no cake baked. He put down a hearth cake. One of the men got up and pretended to be lighting his pipe and he threw ashes on the cake. He put on his shoes and went on out in the garden eating cabbage. The two men said that was a man stealing cabbage. They went out with two sticks beating the man. He did not go out eating cabbage any other night.
