The fireplace was usually in the gable of the thatched houses, but in the mud cabins there were no windows or chimneys and the fire was in the middle of the floor and the smoke went out the door.
The thatched houses had one small window made of glass in the kitchen with wooden shutters inside and they closed these shutters at night.
At night the cows were tied at the end of the kitchen, and there was a loft over the kitchen(continues on next page)- Collector
