    Ned Egan who was a native of Aghamore and a grandfather to John Egan was a famous ballplayer. He was once going to England and it was the costum to walk that time. When he came to Athlone he stopped to play a game of ball. He bet his man and after the game was over a lady bought him a new pair of shoes. She said she would take him about and he could make his living on ballplaying but he went off to England. He lived in Aghamore, Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo.
    Willie Lyons was a famous liar. He once told of how he was sitting in a corner and there was a big fire down and there was a pot of water boiling on the fire
