When the butter is made my mother gathers it with the dash. She shakes the buttermilk and all the butter goes into lumps. She then gets a wooden dish and cleans it and takes out the butter and puts it into the dish. She keeps washing it with spring water until the water comes out as when she put it in. She then puts salt in the butter to keep it from going bad. She makes a roll of it and sometimes prints. The butter-milk is used in making soda bread and it is also given to the hens. It is left in a vessel for them to drink.
