The people often used potato starch for their washing and the way they used to make it was as follows. They used to wash potatoes and then peel them, then scrape them and put them in a vessel. After this the water was squeezed out of them and what remained was used as starch.
The people make boxty when they are digging the potatoes and the children had a rhyme when they were going to school which was,
The Curryane scrub their eyes are red,
Blowing the fire for boxty bread,
High Cockade and a bonny feather,
The Derryronane lads are the lads for ever.
