The fireplace was always in the gable and some people had nothing but a smoke hole. The chimneys were big and there were two hobs used for seats on each side of the fireplace. The reason the windows were so scarce was because for every pane of glass a tax had to be paid.
The floor of the room was made of clay and the kitchen floor used to be flagged. There were no half doors at this time. The lights that was used long ago was bogdeal and rush lights.
