    soaked and softened. It was then taken out and spread out in the fields by the girls and left thus until it bleached white. This was then woven into thread on a flax wheel - a wheel somewhat smaller than the spinning wheel. The thread was sent to the local weaver who made from it beautiful linen towels, sheets etc. Specimens of these are still to be seen in the homes of the people of this locality who cherish them as relics of what they call "the good old days".
