- Laughta Durkan is situated between the Moy and the river Gwestion in the parish of Meelick.
It is one of the oldest villages in Meelick and one time it was very famous.
An old legend explains why this village got it's name.
Long ago there lived in Laughta Durkin a man named Durkin. He was a very important man and he ruled over all Meelick. He died at an old age and was buried about twenty yards from the river Gwestion. His wish was to be buried in that particular spot as it could be seen from a great distance.
Another wish of his was a stone to be placed at each corner of his coffin and a large flag over it.
