- There was a poet in this parish named Owen McGowan. One of his songs is living amongst the people, it is called Túirne Mháire. It was a song composed about a spinning wheel which was supposed to be bewitched. It was sung in this locality when my father was a young boy. The first line of the song is, Túirne Mháire, Túirne Mháire gan sásamh.The old woman was spinning by the fire-side. The boys of the neighbourhood got a stick, they put a hook on the top of it, then they put it down the chimney and took up the thread. The old woman was living near a fort and when she saw that the thread was gone she(continues on next page)
