The local tradition is that French soldiers, flying from Ballinamuck, were pursued to this place by Yeomanry, where they were killed.

This is a remarkable round eminence standing in the wild and lonely moors near Bearna na Gaoithe.Some people say it was one of the camping places of Fionn and his Fianna -Others say it was a boundary mark separating the territories of the O'Dowds of Coolcarney and the O'Haras of Leyney.
