    to Enniscrone. He was walking along the shore when he saw a beautiful young lady sitting on a rock combing her golden hair. This lady was a mermaid. She had a net beside her.
    O'Dowd caught her and brought her home with him. He also brought the net. They lived together very happily for five or six years. They had three children. O'Dowd went out one day to hide the net in a stack of oats. After a few days he went to Ballina. When he was gone one of the little boys told his mother that he saw his father hiding a beautiful thing in a stack of oats.
