- Long ago there were many people living around here that had cures for certain diseases. There are only a few of those people living now. People that used to cure - There is a woman living up in Currower that has a cure for the "rose". She is nicknamed "Big Mary", but her right name is Mary Mullen. Mrs Loftus from Ellaghmore can make a straining thread. if anyone has a strained hand, or a strained foot, and they put the straining thread on it, they will be cured. There was a woman living in Bofield called Bridget Rafter. This woman had the cure for the "evil." A man called Jim Higgans from Carra had a cure for scabs. Pat Judge from Kilbride usd to make up bottles(continues on next page)
