    but are often seen in bands or families. The Maughans, the Wards and Carrs are the best known tinkers in this district. The family of Maughans visit the district very often. Gipsies and tinkers come here during fairs and "patterns." The gipsy-women and the tinker-women go from house to house selling flowers.
    Gipsies always have news and stories from distant parts but the local people very rarely gather around to hear them.
