    It was early one morning young William arose;

    (continued from previous page)
    floating on the watery main
    'Twas early next morning his sister
    came there,
    With the wringing of her hands and the tearing of her hair.
    Oh! where was he drowned or where
    did he fall in,
    Was there any one by that would
    save the life of my fine darling boy.
    Twas early next morning his uncle
    came there,
    He rode round the lake like a
    man in despair.
    Oh! where was he drowned or
    where did he fall in?
    Or was there anyone by to save the life of my fine darling boy.
    The morning of his funeral it
    was a glorious sight.
    To see four and twenty young
    men and them all dressed in white.
    They carried on their
    shoulders.
    Till they laid him in the grave.
    They bid adieu to loyal William
    and then walked away.
