A very old custom is still kept that of spilling blood for St Martin's to commerorate his martyrdom. This is done in every household before the 10th as there is an old belief that St Martin will accept the sacrifice before but not after the Eve of the 10th. It is considered that ill luck will those who do no properly observe this old custom. - This occurs at the Summer Solistice. This is called "Bonfire Night" each has put forth her best and most beautiful, and there is a spirit of thanksgiving in the hearts of the people.(continues on next page)
