- 8. In Knockaun, Ballycastle, Co. Mayo, at Downpatrick Head there was a ship wreck. Two sea men and a captain were on it. They swam to land and waited in Phil Gardiners in Knockaun for the night. That is about seventy years ago.
- 9. At the time of the Great War three sailors came in at Downpatrick Head. One came in first nobody would bury him. Two came together they were left in John Gardines. They were taken to the chapel in a cart and were buried. There were crosses on their breasts.
- There was another ship wreck near the same place about fifty years ago. All the people were drowned. There is a flag(continues on next page)
