- Long ago there were lots of beggar-men and women going around this district.
There was one old man that used to go around to every village, collecting pence, and he was a very funny old man.
He wore a long coat made of wool, and a cap made of straw, with rushes mixed through it. He wore a pair of torn shoes.
He used to have everything he wanted with him, including tea, sugar, and all else he needed.
