    churn the women put a lime on a burned coal in the bottom of it. Sometimes the burned coal was put under the churn to prevent the fairies from bringing the butter.
    When a cow is after calving the people of the house tie a red tape on the cow's tail to prevent the faires from bringing the cow. When the cow is calved her milk is called "beastings." When the "beastings" is boiled it becomes thick and curdy. It is used then by the people of the house.
