Oaten meal bread was made from Oatenmeal small grain salt, a little flour, and it was backed before the fire on a stand
    Boxty bread.
Boxty bread was made from clean washed potatoes which were grated and mixed through flour
Making boxty bread was a favourite work for the girls of Rathruyan on a Sunday, in a field called Liosheen at a bush in a field. When they would have the cakes made they would sit round the fire and the boys of the place used to be watching them through the hedge and they used to steal in and take the cakes when they would get a chance.
According as they wanted the bread it was baked
When the cake would be made a cross would be made on top of it so that it would bake in a hurry.
The bread was baked in a pot-oven
Bread was baked on a Griddle in front of the fire
A griddle cake was often made
