- In Ireland long ago boxty bread was very common. Now-a-days it is a novelty to get it.
It is made from potatoes. They have to be grated. The grater has to be made. This is the way it is made. They get a piece of tin, and they put holes in it, all from one side, with a nail. Then they rub the potatoes on the rough side and then the potatoes are made into a sap or pulp. They mix flour with this pupl [sic] and then they bake it. When it is baked it has a black colour.
