- There was a barrack in Cloghans up to nineteen years ago. it was build eighty years ago by Mr Perry. The contractor was a man named Arthur Cannon. The Barrack was built for the purpose of stopping the people in Annagh Island from making poteen. There was a boathouse built in connection with it on the shore of Lough Conn.
The police were in a house belonging to Quigley's of Lisdulogue before the Cloghans Barrack was built. The first Sergeant that ever did duty in Cloghans was a Sergeant Lungam with four constables adn the last Sergeant that did duty in it was a Sergeant MacCarthy. It ceased to be used as a barrack in 1920 when it was burned down. it was bought then by a man named Browne and he sold it again to a man named Hamilton who repaired it.- Collector
