    At the graveside the priest was usually present. But if for any reason he could not attend he always sent blessed clay to throw over the coffin after it had been laid in the grave.
    When the grave was closed all the people present knelt down on the bare damp ground and offered a prayer for the eternal repose of the soul of the deceased. Then the immediate relatives crossed the covered in grave three times, but I do not know what words they say if they say any on the occasion. After this the people returned home.
