- Roads in my district.The road passing along our school, from Belmullet to Castlebar is called Ball's Road. It was called that name, because it was Engineer Ball that marked it.
Ball and some others had a bet on it. Ball said he would make a road from Castlebar to Belmullet without a bridge. They said he would not. He made the road and he won the bet. It was made in the famine years.
There was once a road coming through "Cnoc na bpáiste". It was called "boitín fuar". It was a road coming to Derreen. It is not in use now. It is covered over with whins now, and there is a path instead of it.
