    house. There was a drain all round this hedge school.
    Farmer's house's used be also used as hedge schools. The pupils had to sit on blocks of wood and sods of earth with some straw and hay on them. The teachers were paid once every three months for their instructions. They did not learn any Irish in this hedge-school. There were only three subjects taught in the hedge-school reading, writing, and Arithmetic.
