- (continued from previous page)St. John baptised Christ in the waters of the Jordan
The Child was meek and mild and the waters were pure and clean.
Blood runs as water runs.
I command your blood to stop in the name of Jesus Christ.
(While saying the holy name , blow the breath on the flowing flood).
As the waters of the Jordan stopped at the Baptism of ChristThis prayer must be taught to a man by a woman or to a woman by a man.An old man named Jack the Cobbler who lived about a hundred years ago taught it to Mary Walshe, who became Mrs, Condon.
Mrs. Condon taught it to Wm. Walshe of Coolishal, from him I got this prayer. The following prayer is to be said when going asleep :-
Toil Dé go ndéanfaimíd
Dlighe Dé go n-aithinímíd
Ar n-aon toil féin go seacaimíd
Srian ar dteangan go gcuirimíd
Ar bás Dé go smaoinimíd
Gach contabhairt peacaidh go seacaimíd
Airthighe trachtmhail go ndéanaimíd
Bás naomhtha go bfuighimíd(continues on next page)- Collector
