The son got the treasure and himself and his mother lived happily ever after (until they died) - On a huge rock rising from the Blackwater are the ruins of Strancally Castle. It is about four miles from Youghal. The Lords of Desmond were the owners and many a fine battle was fought there. The massive rock foundation has a hewn passage communicating with the river.
It is called the "Murdering Hole". Before its destruction in 1579 Strancally was a storehouse for piles of loot, stolen in Youghal by the Earl of Desmond and his followers. On the Christmas of that year, the Desmond soldiers sacked the town(continues on next page)- Informant
