“Once upon a time there lived a lady who was very rich. She was to be married on a certain day.”
(continued from previous page)that the lady should fall into it and they would rob her. When they had the hole fixed they went over to the wake. She came down from the tree and went to the wake herself.
In olden times riddles were given out at wakes. When it came to her chance she gave out the following riddle :
As I went out on a moonlight night
I expected but one, but two came
My heart did break
And the tree did shake
When I saw the hole the rogues did make"
The two men knew what she meant and got up and went away and were never seen afterwards.- There were no doctors in olden times. People used herbs for their ailments.
