- Doctors were not numerous in olden times. People had to go a number of miles to an old lady to be cured.
Toothaches were cured by putting a frog into the mouth thrice and if the frog squealed it is said the toothache would go away. A man named Mr. Gearan who was a blacksmith lived in a forge in my district and anyone who wanted to pull a tooth went to him. He used tie a piece of cord to the anvil and to the tooth. He would then stand near the person with a hammer and hit the anvil with it and the person's head would lift up and the jerk would pull out the tooth.
