    a travelling school and used to lodge in the houses near the school. In payment for the instruction the school-master got food and money from the pupils.
    Arithmetic, Reading and Writing were the principal subjects and all were taught in Irish. Slates wee used for writing. Round by the walls straw was spread for the pupils to sit on.
