She was tall, she was witty, both handsome and pretty
You would swear that her equal you never had seen
She was tall, she was handsome. Myself would not chance
The night that I met her going down the boreen.
I went to Kilmallock in search of employment
And all the round towers and abbeys I have seen
There's one thing I met there, some day I'll regret it
'Twas a fine farmer's daughter going down the boreen.
I said "now, my Nellie, will you please come and tell me
If you are engaged to any other spalpeen
Now give up your dairy, come with me to Tipperary
And we'll finish the bargain going down the boreen"
I sat down beside her and softly enjoyed her
She had all the latest fashions you ever had seen
She said "stop your mocking, we'll make shirts ans stocking
And we'll knit, wash and wear them going down the boreen"
I have come to the conclusion, if a wife you are choosing
Don't mind those gay damsels with their silly ideas
