   in Tigh na Laighne where the forge is situated now. One day, however, he was offered a gallon of porter if he could pull a load of sand from Túineach sand pit to the Half Way. A horse's cart was then filled with thirty hundred weight of sand. The distance was about a quarter of a mile and at that time the roads were covered with stones and in a bad condition. However James Cowmey pulled the load and when he came to the Half Way he received the porter.

   Years ago there lived a very strong smith in Knockboy. This is a story told by Mr. Power. Mr. Harris was the smith's name. One morning he set out to roll a very hilly field near the riverside. When he went down to the corner he turned the horses up against the hill. So the horse couldn't pull the roller up the hill. The man put the roller upon his back and carried it up to the top.
