    I met this wren upon a rock, I drove her through a brandy shop, I dipped her head in a barrell of beer,
    I whish you all a happy new year.
    Up with the kettle and down with the pan.
    Give us some money to bury the wren.
    All silver, no brass, give us the price of half a glass.
    I chased her up and I chased her down, I chased her into Lucan Town.
    In most of the houses we went to, we got money. The last house we went to we got two shillings and eight pence. We were going in when five boys were coming out, and they laughed at us, when they saw us going in. That night I went to the pictures with all the other boys. I enjoyed the day very well.
