- On the third of October 1935 the shocking disaster of the Shortall and Hughes Bro's occoured. Four youths left Dún-Laoghaire Harbour to hobble a steamer up the River Liffey. There was a gale blowing (in the distance) and after receiving their hire one of the Hughes Bros said that he would go home with the money in the bus. Several people told the others to tie up the boat, and leave it there until the following day, until the storm had ceased. They took no notice of the warnings and put to sea again.
While returning home the boat capsized and all three were drowned(continues on next page)- Collector
