Now, Mrs. Shields was married for over ten years but had no children. However, twelve months later in May of 1866, Mrs. Shields was expecting to give birth to a baby and was confined to bed. Dr. Middleton a local Doctor was called in to attend her, and that evening the Eve of the May procession of 1865, she gave birth to a son. A son, perfect in body, arms and legs but which had the head of a dog, that of a pomeranian dog, a perfect likeness of her own pet dog that she held in her arms in mockery of the procession twelve months previously.
Two prominent surgeons were called down from Dublin and after consultations with Dr. Middleton the creature was distroyed.(continues on next page)- Collector
