“In the time of the trouble and when hedge schools were in Ireland on a mountain bordering Shanveen in a place called Crónagcearcfraoigh.”
(continued from previous page)He also kept his own milk cows and all his requirements. He taught a very high class school. He had a number of young students. They had a sgáileachan erected of stone and earth that served their purpose. It was known there were students taught there who were highly educated. There was one student taught there that our ancestors often talked about. They believed he might be the brightest Irish scholar in all Ulster. His name was Dominick Mac Dade. It was also known that there were valuable books, bibles and histories and also Colmkille's prophecies used in the schools. All the collection of books disappeared but it is rumoured that there is a few of the books in Glenfinn to the present day. He taught in this little glen in the mountain for years and years. It is known to be one of the greatest spots in all Co. Donegal for cearcafraoigh.- Collector
