When two people were exchanging articles one of which was of a better quality than the other something was given either in kind or money to make the two things of equal value. This something was called “lost.” Another common word was “tick.” When a person bought goods on credit they bought them on “tick.” When a person bought goods on credit they bought them on “tick.” When a person bought an article and sold it over again he was said to be “throgging.”
