any house, the people of that house will have bad luck during the year.
    St. Brigid's Day.
On St. Brigid's Day, a female member of the family named Mary or Brigid goes out and gathers rushes. She ties them with a piece of red flannel. She comes to the door and knocks. The man of the house says "Gabh ar bhur nglunaibh fosgail bhur suile, agus leig isteach Brigide". Brigid comes in, and gives him the rushes. The rag is put away, and it is said that it can cure a sore head. The man of the house makes crosses, and puts one over the door of every out-house as well as over the doors in the dwelling-house. This is done to keep bad luck out of the houses.
    Good Friday.
On this day, the old women do not wash their faces or comb their hair. They do this in honour of Our Lord's Death on the Cross.
