- There is a tradition that at the time that the Abbey of the Four Masters in Donegal town was invaded by foreign foes, the resident monks had to take flight, and leave most of their possessions behind them.
Some valuables, including a chalice of silver were retained. As the monks could not carry these valuable articles with them in their flight, the tradition runs, that they hid the articles on a hill near the townland of Rathforker belonging to an old man called O'Donnell. The treasure is still there undiscovered.
