    Letterfad, the attendance dwindled so much that the school was closed. Paddy Furey resigned his position and engaged in the liquor business in Donegal.
    At a later date he met with an accident coming from Donegal one Saturday evening and he died on the roadside. It has often been commented upon, that many of those who persisted in teaching or supporting this Hibernian Bible Society - "Teaching Irish" as it is often called, met with violent deaths.
    The rudiments of education given were very elementary indeed. Once, each winter, Paddy Furey visited the pupils in the neighbourhood and asked them to learn the spelling of two words in preparation for the annual visit of the inspector. The inspector , to show his "rescue from Rome" publicly ate meat on Friday.
