    Very few books were in use, and great care was taken of them and were in use for a number of years.
    Slates were generally used, but most of the work was done metally.
    Scholars taught at McKnight's school could make most difficult mental calculations.
    Nearly all the spoken language was Irish, but the instructions were generally given in English.
    Sometimes goose quill pens were used, and the teacher had great trouble keeping them in order.
