    I took a draught at half past four,
    And I thought of the poor dear hounds
    That I had laid low,
    By the shores of the Avormore.

    I laughed and laughed with a mighty laugh,
    Until you'd think my heart would break,
    When I thought of the peelar hounds,
    That tracked me night and day,
    It is these, I baulked for many a time, when I wandered far away,
    By the stream which is called the Abha na Séad,
    And by the woods of Avonmore.
