  1. When King Jame's army was beseiging Derry his headquarters was at St Johnston. The king stayed in Mr Robert Cowans in St Johnston. At first he stayed in Mongavlin castle two miles above St Johnston. But when the people in Derry did not surrender as he thought they would he came to Mr Robert Cowan's in St Johnston to be near Derry.
    At the time King James was staying in Robert Cowans John Cowan his son was in Derry
