It was a general belief among the local people that a crock of gold was hidden in the vicinity of where notorious Lord Leithrim was shot. An old woman, living a short distance from the place dreamt three nights in succession about the crock of gold being hidden at the foot of the hawthorn bush close to were Leithrim met his fate.
This Sunday night after the clock struck twelve she sent her three hefty sons with picks and shovels to dig for the crock. After a strenuous night's work they arrived back, to exhausted and down-hearted to a more down-hearted mother who had remained awake all night with the hope of counting gold.
