- I live in the townland of Socker, in the parish of Kilmacrennan and in the Barony of Kilmacrennan.
There are seven families in our townland and the number of people in our townland is forty one.
The houses in our townland are all thatched only two William Elliott's house is slated and James Murray's house is tinned.
There are four old people over seventy in our townland viz. Miss Rosie Kildea, Mrs. Wilson, Mr. Patrick Gallagher and Hugh McGlynn, all in Socker, Trenta, Lifford, Co. Donegal. They do not know any Irish but they can tell stories in English.
There are three vacant home-steads and two ruins.
Three families emigrated to America. Our townland is hilly with a little bog in it.
McGlynn is the name most common in our townland.
There is a famous mountain in our townland called "Cruckatee" It is named in the song "The Hills of Donegal". Opposite this mountain there is a giant's grave and it is covered with a large flag stone surrounded by trees.- Collector
