    The smith uses an anvil a hammer and a pair of pinchers. He strikes out the iron on the anvil. He hammers the nails with the hammer. The pinchers are used for pulling nails.
    The smith shoes horses and donkeys. He makes farm implements such as ploughs, harrows, spades, shovels picks and axes.
    Some parts of the forge works are done in the open air such as shoeing wheels. Some people think that the sparks which fly from the red iron can cure fever.
    Long ago the people of the district sent gifts to the smiths on Easter Sunday. The smiths also had power to banish rats by sprinkling the forge water about.
