    day a trout or salmon has never been taken from the water of Mulroy.
    I can say that part of the story at any rate is not a fact. I have taken white trout from the water of Mulroy on several occasions but I must confess that I have never taken a salmon nor have I ever seen one taken.
    46. I can't find any.
    47. St Brigid's Eve. A custom which has almost died out is that of making St Brigids Crosses on St Brigid's Eve.
    On that evening went out and cut some rushes. Person who cut the rushes brought them to the house and placed them on the threshold at the same time saying "Go on your knees, open your eyes and let in St Brigid." Those inside answered, "She is welcome."
    This practice has almost entirely died out.
    St John's Day. Great bonfires were built on that day and were lighted at night fall. There was a bonfire in each
