- How to make a whistle.I often make whistles in the Spring from the branches of the Sycamore-tree. To make a whistle you must get a branch about an inch or half an inch in circumference. Having got a piece about three or four inches long with no knots in the bark the next thing to do is to shape the whistle. First cut a slip off the end of the stick and a v-shaped nick out of the top. Then cut the bark right round about two inches from the hole as shown in figure (i). Then beat the bark with another stick till it comes off. The bark must have no holes in it. You next cut the end of the stick off just above the hole. Cut a fine slip of this piece to allow air to pass in as shown in figure (ii). Next(continues on next page)
