In this district there are three disused forges, there is one in Mullaney near Castle Hill and another one at Mr McArthurs of Speenogue and one down at Mr Fitzpatricks at Speenogue post office. - The farmers in this district start to plant their potatoes about St Patrick's day. Some of them plant from five to ten acres. When they are preparing to plant the potatoes the plough-man ploughs the land first and then he cultivates it and after that he drills it.
